Altarum Medicare-Medicaid Services for States (AMMS) to Lead Panel at SNP Alliance Fall Leadership Forum

Altarum Medicare-Medicaid Services for States (AMMS) Executive Director Sarah Barth will moderate a panel at the 19^th Annual SNP Alliance Fall Leadership Forum: Promoting Aligned Policy, Practice, and Measurement for Complex Populations. The event will be held October 24-25, 2022, in Washington, DC.

The SNP Alliance is an invitation-only leadership group that includes members from nonprofits, for-profit public plans, affiliated business partners, and professional associations. SNP Alliance members share a common goal of serving those who are disabled, chronically ill, and socially disadvantaged. Members represent more than 400 SNPs in 47 states and the District of Columbia and serve more than 2.8 million beneficiaries.

The alliance serves its members through shared learning, public policy development and advocacy, and national meetings and conferences—such as the Fall Leadership Forum.

In the AMMS-moderated panel, “State Voices: Next Steps for Integrated Programs and Service Delivery,” which takes place from 11:30 am–12:30 pm ET on Tuesday, October 25^th, Sarah Barth will discuss challenges and accomplishments with leaders representing states with Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNP) models with varying levels of integration.

Moving forward with integrated programs is dependent on many state activities—including procurement processes, program designs for Managed Long-Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) and Behavioral Health inclusion, enrollment policies, and adequate administrative resources and knowledge for support. States vary in their capacity to respond to opportunities under new CMS rules but D-SNPs at all levels can help states meet goals for delivering quality care to dually eligible individuals.

Invited panelists representing the states of California, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Virginia, will share how they are responding to the rule changes, Financial Alignment Initiative (FAI) transitions, and new opportunities for integration. AMMS is a nonprofit organization that helps states create financially sustainable solutions to advance health, health equity, wellness, and independent living for dually eligible individuals. The AMMS approach meets states where they are along the continuum of knowledge, capacity, and expertise and offers phased-in approaches to integration to achieve person-centered care—from gaining Medicare proficiency, to increasing coordination across the two programs, to implementing fully integrated programs.
