San Diego, CA
Altarum’s Craig Newman, PhD, will present on the Helios program at the American Immunization Registry Association (AIRA) 2023 national meeting on Wednesday, May 3rd. The AIRA 2023 National Meeting will take place May 2–4 in San Diego, California.
AIRA is a membership organization—of which Altarum is a member—that promotes the development and implementation of immunization information systems (IIS) as an important tool in preventing and controlling vaccine-preventable diseases and ensuring healthy communities. The national meeting is an annual event that brings together AIRA’s peers and partners to share the latest IIS best practices and discuss IIS on a national stage.
Altarum currently leads the Helios FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) Accelerator for Public Health, a program under the umbrella of the standards development organization HL7. An alliance of government, private sector, and academic stakeholders united by their commitment to the equitable and effective use of data for the advancement of public health, Helios’ members work to ensure public health data modernization efforts incorporate FHIR-based solutions. The program assembles stakeholders to identify potential impediments to the use of these solutions and develops standards, approaches, and tools to streamline their real-world adoption.
One of the priority areas of focus identified by Helios members for 2023 is ensuring that authorized users of immunization information systems can access vaccination data in bulk. In his presentation at AIRA 2023, Dr. Newman will share lessons learned from the Helios FHIR Accelerator’s effort to encourage bulk sharing of immunization data. The presentation will be part of the “Get FHIRed Up!” breakout sessions between 3:00 and 4:15 pm PT.
Altarum has been helping public health programs integrate data for nearly 20 years. We have hands-on experience developing FHIR solutions and working closely with interoperability standards organizations. By sharing lessons from the HL7 Helios FHIR Accelerator for Public Health with the broader IIS community, we continue to raise the profile of standards-based interoperability in public health.
