A call to action: Combatting stigma associated with opioid use disorders in metropolitan Detroit

The Detroit Area Mental Health Leadership Team, a community-academic partnership of which Altarum is a member, will present an advocacy brief designed to help health providers, community-based organizations, local and state government, and other stakeholders to combat stigma that individuals with opioid use disorder experience and which often undermines prevention efforts. Emily Ehrlich, director of Altarum's Center for Behavioral Health, will present along with several members of the partnership.

Patient falls and nurse hourly rounding in acute care: Linking patient experience and outcomes

Chantell Frazier of Altarum will join Melissa Gliner of the Department of Defense and Kimberley Marshall-Aiyelawo of the Defense Health Agency to present findings from a study that investigates the link between nurse rounding frequency and patient falls rates using data from 31 acute care hospitals and medical centers over a six-month period. Altarum's Chris Duke also contributed to the study.

Factors influencing the experiences of obstetric care patients within the military health system

Chantell Frazier of Altarum will join Kimberley Marshall-Aiyelawo of the Defense Health Agency and Melissa Gliner of the Department of Defense to present research that sheds light on ways to improve the experience of new mothers receiving obstetric care at military hospitals. Tara Fowler of Altarum also contributed to the study.

Strengthening provider capacity to serve postpartum women at risk of opioid misuse

Jennifer Rogers of Altarum will share steps in the development and implementation of a SUD-specific systems integration framework that can be applied to non-traditional settings. She will share successes, opportunities, and lessons learned that can be applied and replicated in other contexts.

Reducing the gap in organ donation: Findings from the 2019 national survey of organ donation attitudes and practices

S. Janet Kuramoto-Crawford of HRSA, Alan Leichtman of Arbor Research for Collaborative Health, and Adriana Martinez of HRSA will present research that shows a large gap remains between the percentage of adults who support organ donation and the percentage who sign up to be organ donors, and the importance of education and communication in reducing this gap. Chris Duke of Altarum is also an author of the study.
