Michigan Veterans Community Action Teams: Region 6 Community Assessment Report

The Michigan Veterans Community Action Teams (MiVCAT) project is a collaborative community model created by Altarum to enhance the delivery of services from public, private, and nonprofit organizations to Veterans and their family members.
The MiVCAT project was introduced in Michigan by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) in August 2013, with pilots in two of Michigan’s ten Prosperity Regions—Detroit Metro Region 10 and West Michigan Region 4. In 2014-2015, MiVCAT expanded to four additional regions: Region 5 East-Central; Region 6 East Michigan; Region 7 South-Central; and Region 9 Southeast Michigan.
This report summarizes the community assessment findings for Region 6.
Over 65,000 Veterans reside in Region 6. Almost half of those individuals (30,100) live in Genesee County while about one-fifth (13,100) make St. Clair County their home. Veteran populations in Tuscola, Shiawassee, and Lapeer range between 4,600 and 6,700. Sanilac (3,000) and Huron (2,600) have the regions lowest number of Veterans.
