Congresswoman Debbie Dingell of Michigan’s 12th district will kick-off Altarum’s ninth annual Sustainable Health Care Spending Symposium on July 9 on Capitol Hill.
A rising star in health care policy, Congresswoman Dingell is a member of the Health Subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce, co-chair of the Medicare for All Caucus and the Assisting Caregivers Today (ACT) Caucus, and Vice-Chair of the Task Force on Aging & Families. She is also a co-sponsor of the Medicare For All Act of 2019.
Rep. Dingell is the Democratic lead on the bipartisan Ensuring Medicaid Provides Opportunities for Widespread Equity, Resources (EMPOWER) and Care Act with Brett Guthrie (R-KY) which extends the Money Follows the Person (MFP) demonstration program. Additionally, Congresswoman Dingell is partnering with Fred Upton (R-MI) on the bipartisan Protecting Married Seniors from Impoverishment Act to permanently extend spousal impoverishment protections for Medicaid beneficiaries receiving long-term care in a home or community care setting.
On June 18, the Empowering Beneficiaries, Ensuring Access, and Strengthening Accountability Act (HR 3253) passed the House on a vote of 371-46; the bill includes an extension of MFP for 4 ½ years, and a parallel extension of spousal impoverishment protections for Medicaid beneficiaries receiving long-term care in a home or community care setting.
Altarum’s sustainable health care spending symposium, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will feature over a dozen experts on health care spending and value. Join us to learn how America’s deficit combined with the longest economic expansion in history may affect future health care spending growth. Hear about progress that has been made in moving from volume to value in the health sector, and gain insight on the impact these trends have on vulnerable and publicly insured populations.
