Altarum and VBID Health Launch Consortium to Address Waste in Health Care

September 20, 2018

Ann Arbor, MI — Altarum and VBID Health today announce the launch of the Research Consortium for Health Care Value Assessment, a PhRMA Foundation-funded initiative that brings together researchers working in health care value to collaborate, share findings, and develop research ideas to help address inefficiencies in health care.

The Consortium is led by George Miller of Altarum and Mark Fendrick of VBID Health and an advisory committee of leading experts, including:

  • David Meltzer, Ph.D., M.D., University of Chicago, and Advisory Committee Chair
  • Beth Bortz, M.P.P., Virginia Center for Health Innovation
  • Peter J. Neumann, Sc.D., Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine
  • Neel Shah, M.D., M.P.P., Harvard Medical School and Harvard Ariadne Labs
  • Steven M. Teutsch, M.P.H., M.D., Fielding School of Public Health, UCLA, and Schaeffer Center, USC

Health Affairs today features a story about the initiative, "Optimizing Health Care Resource Allocation," where leaders of the consortium explain how traditional approaches to reducing spending are no longer enough—now is the time to move from a framework of how much is spent to how well it is spent.
